Oh dear! Natalie Imbruglia wears same dress for second day running as stylish Cheryl shows how it's done in a sweater dress

Style war: Natalie Imbruglia wears the same pink dress she wore to auditions the day before, while Cheryl Cole ups the ante in a Missoni minidress

Cheryl Cole has left fellow X Factor judge Natalie Imbruglia trailing in her fashion wake after the former Neighbours star made the ultimate celebrity faux pas of wearing an outfit two days in a row.

Natalie, 35, wore the rather bizarre pink frock yesterday for the first day sorting through the hopefuls at auditions at Birmingham's LG Arena.

But the crowds waiting outside the venue today were taken aback when the singer turned up in exactly the same dress for the second day, accessorised with the same black skyscraper heels.

Accessory queen: Cheryl teamed the outfit with gold jewellery and her trademark smile as she was escroted into a waiting car

At first, it seemed the dress choice was because of filming continuity issues, but the fact that all the other judges wore different outfits suggests otherwise.

Cheryl upped the ante by wearing a glittery, barely-there stripey Missoni mini-dress and spike-heeled shoes.

Yesterday, the judge had been more casual in a grey ensemble featuring skin-tight jeans, waistcoat and chunky necklace.

Nat's style slip-up is certainly not going to help her win the clothes war with Cheryl, 26.

After all, the Geordie judge has a lot more practice when it comes to fashion face-offs, having spent the past two series of the X Factor being constantly compared to rival judge Dannii Minouge.

Natalie is the second guest celebrity to stand in for judge Dannii, 38, who's about to give birth to her first child.

Geri Halliwell stood in for her at the Glasgow auditions last Wednesday, but didn't stand a chance against Cheryl in the style stakes, when the former Miss Tweedy turned up in a glamourous leopard print ballgown.

The 37-year-old former Spice Girl meanwhile looked more dressed for a night down the pub in faded jeans, baggy yellow T-shirt and a beaten-up brown leather jacket.

Keeping it casual: Louis Walsh and Konnie Huq at the second Birmingham X Factor audition

Different styles: Simon Cowell went casual in a white T-shirt and jeans while Dermot O'Leary smartened things up in a shirt and smart trousers

New Xtra Factor host Konnie Huq avoided making the same fashion no-no as Natalie by wearing a different dress from yesterday.

The former Blue Peter girl, 34, wore a summery cream dress and chunky brown strappy sandals and arrived arm-in-arm at the auditions with fellow judge Louis Walsh, 57.

Other guest X Factor judges due to be pitted against Cheryl in later auditions include Katy Perry and Pixie Lott.
