I remember getting my first OS X machine in early 2005. Tiger was so different from the world of windows I'd been used to it. I've been a crazy apple fan ever since!

iPhone did nothing new. It just took some popular features and combined them. It was more of a game changer due to it being made by apple.
I think you should go watch the keynote of 2007... the iPhone's introduction. I watched it the other day cause I had a little too much time to kill and felt like seeing where we came from.

Hey I just got a 24" myself.
EDIT: Also had to pick up a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Why not get a mini displayport straight to DVI cable? I never understood the use of an adapter. Maybe someone can shed some light?

The iPhone to Verizon won't happen, especially with the announcement today that Verizon is teaming up with Google and their Android phone. I at first thought the commercial was just a leverage ploy on Verizons part, working on Apple and their negotiations. Now I think it's just the first shot over the bow.
Time to look at unlocking and bailing to T-Mo again and get out of this crap-shoot called AT$T.

well i still have 3 main machines for folding, but none are back up to full force.
i don't have any of them running over 3.6 ghz (the fastest now is like 3.55 or so). so right now i'm just running -advmethods instead of -bigadv on 2 of them, and i'm actually using the other one, so no cpu folding right now.

I think this might be ready at MWSF. If they release MBP's, iPhones, and vPods before MWSF, what the heck are they gonna surprise us with there? Nothing.

Much quicker update than the last one for me.
I think the realistic minimal RAM requirements will move to 4GB with Lion. Installing on an older MacBook with 2GB of RAM has proven that Lion loves RAM and Beachballs :) .
It is fairly stable for a "Beta/Preview" build though and seems to be closer to being ready to ship.
The macbook air's ship with 2gig standard. They wont leave a computer that new behind.

It's basically the ultimate "access" machine. Just yesterday I used my phone as a dictionary, store, terminal to enterprise software, link to external contact database. (also made some phone calls) iPad would be similar. Lookup, lookup, lookup. Web browsing is covered under that, too.
One thing the iPad brings that any phone cannot is a level of professionalism. In the companies I deal with, using your phone during a meeting looks questionable, like you're fooling around. Using a tablet or laptop to do the exact same lookup of whatever would be ok. It's a little silly, but that's the vibe I get currently.
This is not to say everyone has use for it. I'm happy with the phone, I'm not in that many meetings.You might as well consider me as someone that does not own a cellphone.

While I'm no great fan of DRM, this makes about as much sense as making all home, car and office locks use the same key. And making files DRM'd under one system transferable to a different DRM (what France was attempting) simply means that no DRM will be stronger than the weakest.
Like it are not, if we want to buy legit music, we've got to have a fairly effective DRM or those who own music have no incentive to release it. Would any of us leave a brand-new MacBook Pro unattended on a park bench while we went into a store? Well, these people have far more invested in their music than we have in our computers.
In short, we shouldn't demand of others different standards than those we live by ourselves.

Arguably true - but that illustrates a big weakness of the hybrid design...they are always going to take a weight penalty over a pure diesel or pure electric car.
Until we come up with a way to make batteries a lot lighter, more efficient and more green, they are going to force engineers to make big compromises.

Thanks for your advice dejo, but I'm not stepping away because of lack of fundamentals. Interaction with other developers is an additional learning source (the main is all kind of documentation), of course I need to learn more about fundamentals of objective C just like you did when you had 3 months programming, but that ain't stopping me from asking help in forums. Some people help you, some don't, you just have to deal with that.
The reason I suggested what I suggested was that, without a good grasp of the fundamentals, you are not exactly speaking the same language as those you seek help from. This can cause continued confusion and frustration by all involved. Anyways, good luck with your issue.

Have you heard anyone say that they are anxiously anticipating Vista? Microsoft will try to generate some synthetic excitement over Vista, but in reality, hardly anyone will really care.
I couldn't disagree with you more.
I've been a Apple-user since infancy, practically, (so don't take me to be a MS fanboy), but I also appreciate PCs. I have a iMac G4 for home and a PC laptop which I used on campus and have continued to use out of college. I recently downloaded and installed Vista RC1, and regardless of its still-beta form, it is surprizingly stable (for basic uses), plus has a gorgeous user-interface (nevermind it's an obvious aqua rip-off). In fact, I'm almost to the point where I want to set Vista as my default OS.
The point of saying all this is that Vista IS going to be a solid OS* and IS going to be a "threat" to OSX. If anything, I think that hardly anyone cares about OSX. To a lot of people, OSX is something they saw once that looked cool but didn't seem like a relevant option given how they used computers (of course they don't know that they're usually wrong). Now there will be a version of Windows that looks and feels like that other cool thing... which is exactly what they want. Average users aren't analytic about their computer purchases like we are. We know Macs are better because we've studied the options... but MS knows most people won't study. And to those people, Windows Vista is going to be a very alluring option... and will keep them from using those brain cells.
These people and everyone else who has made the decision to use a PC (myself included) are greatly anticipating Vista's release (or in my case, Vista SP1), and it will be a welcomed addition to the PC-user's home.

Fortunately for PC users, even the premium hardware demands will be met easily enough by today's CPUs. My laptop (2 years old) cannot run Aero Effects or any other special features of Vista, but still runs very smoothly with the features disabled. And, yes, I've had some blue-screens but that's because I was tampering with drivers and settings... something the average user won't be doing. And again, lastly, I repeat that I use a PC to suppliment my Desktop Mac. My PC Laptop was purchased at a time before Intel Macs were available... nor had any prospect of being able to dual-boot to Windows. It was a near-mandatory OS decision due to specific software needed for college classes... and, yes... LAN party gaming (which IS a college requirement, BTW).

I guess you mean legal? We protect ourselves by not signing on the dotted line. Nothing says that access to data how we want it is a human right. It's a luxury. I'm not a fan of the carriers, but I was the one who went to them; I was neither forced or fooled into forming a contract with them.

Here is my best guess as to how the Keynote will pan out from start to finish.
- Straight in with iPhone (no big summary of figures "So much great stuff to show you guys" etc). Phenomenal success etc. Today bumping it to 16GB and introducing new firmware which provides all the rumored features. Introduce some iPhone apps for sale on iTunes and release SDK details so everyone else can do the same soon.
- Laptops are growing in market share. We have the best on the market, selling really well etc. Now making them even better. MacBook Pro, new black/carbon fibre/obscure metal enclosure. Using the now standard Apple keyboard design. Using new chipset but otherwise the same on 15" and 17" inch. Then move on: "much demand for a replacement for PB 12". Today we have it. Smallest lightest laptop we have ever made etc." 13" but super thin, no optical and upgradable 32GB SSD. The ultraportable will be part of the MBP lineup. And cost maybe $1699 in base spec.
- iTunes, a few quick figures. Then in with film rentals. "People only want to watch a movie once". Announce partners. "How do you watch it?". Updated Apple TV. Cheaper. No Blu-Ray. That would increase the cost alot and reduce the need to download the films off Apple in the first place.
- One More Thing (definitely not the subnotebook, he knows it wouldn't surprise anyone so it will be earlier) Mac Mini becomes same form factor as Apple TV (ie, wider) but a bit taller. Uses 3.5" drives and has more RAM slots. Not a full blown tower though. Back to $499 price point Mac Mini was originally introduced at.
I want to think they have something more cutting edge lined up but right now I can't think what it could be. I'm willing to be surprised though.

well i wouldn't say that. it wouldn't be as big of a deal if i was at the machine everyday, then a quick change of a few settings and it's back up. but being away, this is not fun.

T-Mo may have screwed the pooch on their 3G rollout, but my phone doesn't drop 30% of my calls. It'll be interesting to see how ATT, and TMo keep up with the 3G coverage, as Verizon and Sprint move forward.
My iPhone never drops calls and hasnt since after the first few months the 3G luanched. But I am not in New York or California! :p
I did have a hard time sending MMS the week it launched. Lots of sending errors. And tethering...... how about that AT&T? :rolleyes:
I want another US carrier to get the iPhone, if for no other reasons than to just spur competition and get a big load off of the AT&T network.

Hardline lets you get killstreaks a kill earlier. Hardline Pro lets you double tap X on a killstreak crate to switch out what's inside.
So, with this setup you can enable: SAM Turret for 3 kills, Care Package for 4, and Sentry Gun for 5. You can then switch out every single one of those for something random, which is usually Napalm Strike, B-52, or Valkyrie Rockets.
It's so overpowered.
Not really. I've been using that setup for a couple weeks now (See post #39). Much more often than not, I get boring stuff. I've only had them swap for Chopper Gunner, Gunship, or Dogs on about 5 times, with the occasional SR71. This is out of probably 250 or so packages. But either way, Treyarch have said that this for sure will be patched in the next update. It will then only work on actual Care Packages, and not the SAM or Sentry drops.

Just set one of your killstreaks as Sentry, and then throw it in the middle of the map when you get it. Then just wait for the enemy to get it, and kill it once they've deployed it.

As for this control panel issue with buttons versus sliders, why does Apple feel they need to group expose and spaces under one control panel anyway?
