So what happens if USCIS calls a company which is closed. Obviosly that company is closed, so there is no way they can check it. If you loose your tax docs, it is very tough on you?

No, you don't have to be employed while in EAD but do remember GC is future job, if have something to show them then you are safe.
Correct, with a few exceptions:
1) I-140 can be automatically revoked if the petitioning employer goes out of business.
2) I-140 can be withdrawn by the petitioning employer.
If you do not expect these two events while you are waiting for I-485 approval, there is no need to work.

I don't want to discourage you, but IV has looked into all these options earlier and has realized that it would be fruitless to try and ask our lazy politicians to take up our case with the US govt. More over this is an internal matter of US govt and Indian government cannot influence their policies and laws. Why would you expect Indian govt. to fight for you, when you left the Indian shores and want to settle down in US for your comfort?
Having said that, if you do have contacts and would like to take the lead in reaching out to the Indian govt, IV will support you. So please do the honors.

Dont mind you sound to me like do it alone dude. Most of us have waited years of agony and waiting. Indian govt like any other govt will do it for there interests. Remember all the $$s that pour into our RBI reserve. If you thought that was because of Indians and had nothing to do with NRIs..think again!

The best thing for them to do or what they should have done is after 140 approval, they should accept 485 and process and keep it ready for date to become current. When current , they should mail the GC that month.

I am E-filing my EAD thru online. There is a dropDown where it asks for "Current Immigration Status"...
My Situation:
1. Entered into USA using H1B Visa
2. Changed the job and now working using EAD
3. In othyer words, my status would be AOS Pending...
Now question is there is no "AOS Pending" status in that dropdown. SO, I am confused about chosing the correct status...
The nearest ones that I am thinking are "parolee" or "UNKNOWN"

Dear Friend I totally agree with you. I was with one of these employers and have moved away from them. As suggested by some members you can report about these fraudulent activities to DOL. I know it is dufficult to leave these employers as they make the employees to sign bonds and try to capture all the money that they have acquired in PF etc back in the native country.
These employers are to be blamed for the current economy condition of this country and the condition of immigrants like us.

I am in US right now on H1B status, I've my wife on H4 status, I'll be leaving to renew my H1B again, but I heard that some people get their case under review for months, so I am planning to re-enter to US using my AP in case this happened to me.

Any non-profit institution which engages in research/ collaboration with an university is H1b-cap exempt. Also H1B cap-exemption is possible if you work at a non-profit/ university, but not paid by it (e.g. paid by some other company).
My wife came from India 2 months ago. She has a degree in biostatistics and is in a similar situation. If you would like to get in touch, let us know.

If you can convert to EB2 ( eligible for it ) and recapture your earlier PD of EB3 then it would be the best course of action . If you keep on waiting for the bills to pass ( and they don't since this is an election year ) then you would just lose time.
I know we are all frustrated because of this seemingly endless wait but I am positive - it is not endless . It will end one way or the other - for some sooner and for others later.
