I just got the word from our treasurer that the IRS has approved Immigration Voice as a non-profit organization of 501 (C) (4) type.
Until now, it was pending approval. Now Immigration Voice is a non-profit for sure and this means that we do not pay taxes on the income. This also means that no volunteers can get paid compensations for the work done.
Immigration Voice will file the tax return as a non-profit and hopefully, that will remove doubts from some members/visitors that all the money is spent only on advocacy(lobbying) and website maintenance and no one is personally profiting from this effort.
This is a big relief for us and now its time to file taxes.
I actually don't think this is the main concern of many people who have not contributed. I have talked with many friends who got stuck with their GC applications regarding IV and urged them to contribute. However, not many of them were very passionate about this. They just simply believed that they could not achieve their GCs faster with IV's effort than without. $20 per month is not a big deal for them. But without any confidence and hope, they did not even want to bother to register and contribute. Most of my friends are EB2 with PD 2004 or later. Some who have filed 485s see no sign for SKIL being passed and are fine with their APs and EADs. Those who have not filed their 485 truly believe that they could file their 485s in about 2 years and got used to this waiting.
So I think maybe we can let people know what IV has achieved in the past one year(not just how many members or how much money IV has achieved..., but things really matter to people) and inspire them.

I refered to USCIS website but did not find a mention of copies of DL.
There is no link - it's people experience. There are a lot of guys who got RFE for color copy. Search forums if you want proof.

Well ... that's the sad part. Everyone in core team is probably reading this but no significant feedback or suggestion has come from them. May be they are all too busy or this topic doesn't have any merit or has been discussed in depth already before. I am not sure what's going on.

I missed on some of the conversation here
- '92-'00 was a good economic time because of the dot com boom.
- the repubs were in charge of the house and senate, and they helped in part to frame/pass the policies during that time.
- the housing sector debacle started in the clinton era, when the dems pushed the fannie may & freddie mac to lower the lending standards to give loans to the people who couldn't afford it. though it sounded like a good objective they all knew that at one point it would boomerang.
- the dems did that for their own purposes:
1. to gain the support of the lower income/middle income population which they did.
2. to fatten their own wallets-they changed the compensation rules so that the more they loan out the more their compensation. the dem guy in charge of the loaning agencies earned 90 mil in 6 years.
3. the top two beneficiaries of contribution from fm/fm were guess who chris dodd & barck obama (barack got 130K in just 3 years). not to mention the favorable interest rates on their mortgage loans.
- the US has prospered so far because of its capitalistic philosophy. it has advanced innovation, and entrepreneurship, because innovators know they'll be compensated for their hardwork. barack recently claimed he want's to spread the wealth around which is a socialist philosophy...you've seen that in the communist countries (no growth, poverty, and low standards).
- barack has had no accomplishment at all...no executive decision made, no major legislation (bills) introduced or passed (let alone through bipartisan efforts). so all of a sudden to assume he's going to bring change is ridiculous. hillary would have made a better president of course the press decides/controls everything now.
- look at the huge spending plan he has (free giveaways to everybody)...to fund that he'll tax you and I (take away whatever money we've saved).
- he's ambiguous on everything...he changed his initial position on almost everything, and not just once (again according to the audience)
I don't think we need to go thru all this again. all i care now is my gc, and I don't think obama is for it. even if he says he's for it, you can't trust him. he'll change his position when it becomes unpopular.

Now that you are enlighted about being one among too many, are you planning to go back, and reduce backlog for others?
Also, when talking about reducing indian population, I hope that you do not agree with what 10 pakistanis tried to do in mumbai few days back!!! That is one very bad way of reducing population! I would prefer load balancing i.e. moving some ppl to part of world where population is not so much. This is called immigration.

We are given visas as their industry need us, but they do not care if we suffer for years. It is nothing but simply 'DESCRIMINATION" based on country of birth.

The draft letter looks good. I think, we should also send a copy or new letter to the Ombudsman and to the DOS (as DOS is also involved in how many visas are released).
That way we do not get pushed around.

You go back to your posts and check what you said. Do a bit of introspection before you resort to mudslinging. Adding facts helps members. Resorting to personal attacks on members such as desi3933 who has been extremely logical and rational in response with real data hurts the whole discussion. we need folks such as desi3933 here. No where he vented any frustration. Take your garbage and frustration some where else.

Maybe she took all the time in doing the ground work which she had mentioned in her letter. Think in a positive way. Sending bunch of flowers and getting the media attention does not solve the problem. There should be some one who can speak directly to the concerned persons and that is what sheela murthy is doing. Let her make her efforts.

I totally agree we need money to run this website and I also agree that we Desis never pay for quality and never ever for service.
Guess it is time to change. Make it a paid website and only Members should be allowed to post queries etc. Putting advertisments on the site too is not a bad idea and I think we work some thing out.

Gurus,
We have applied for 485 for four of our family members. Myself (Primary) and two kids got the welcome email on 06/25 and RFE email for my spouse application on 6/26. Haven't recvd any documents in mail to know the reason, but my questions to Gurus is
- How long will it take to get Card Ordered email after Welcome email. We havent recvd the welcome package in mail yet.
- Is there any relation between not getting Card Ordered email and RFE on my sopuse application.
- What could be the potential reason for RFE on my Spouse Application.

No in-state tuition for legals (only for illegals) - You are a legal high-skilled immigrant and have played by all the rules while contributing greatly to the economy, yet your children are not eligible for in-state tuition, while the children of illegal aliens ARE!!!!!
