But seriously, the new codecs aren't that magical and even with VC1 or H.264, it's pretty easy to run into a barrier with a 25 to 30 GB disc size. Sony shouldn't have any troubles with fitting films at full quality on a 50GB disc. Also keep in mind that the layer substrate within BluRay is a lot thinner than DVD/HD-DVD discs and they claim that a disc could potentially hold up to 12 layers

That translates to roughly 6GB per hour so it was pretty easy for them to toss this 2.5 hour movie onto a 30GB disc and have it consume only 18-20GB for the picture. Add in your lossless audio track, Dolby Digital+ and IME linked to the extras in that final 10GB and you're fine. Speaking with some Microsofties about their VC-1 they believe they can get down to 9Mbps for HD material and 11Mbps for "comfortable" material so there's still room for improvement. 50GB is cool for movies that just have a huge amount of extras though.

This is just the precursor to downloading the whole movie without a physical medium. It'll take a decade to get last mile coverage to rural areas but broadband speed and pervasiveness will ensure that warehousing packaged discs goes the way of the dodo.

So gizmodo is responsible for this how? Questioning what makes an online a journalist a journalist and not just a fan site has been going on for some time (aka: before gizmodo turned off a bunch of TVs). You're just scapegoating an easy target. If you have a problem with the conferences and expos limiting press to only a few big names go after that. Not after guys who like to prank people. You'll change nothing by attacking gizmodo.

Actually a crappy story is held against many movies, tv shows, books, and etc. That's why we call them crappy and they fail. Case in recent point, the drubbing that Skyline is getting, besides it's spectacular trailer. It looks good, but it came in fourth in movies this week, and word of mouth may make that as high as it goes. The complaint? Weak stories, characters, and a truly stupid & frustrating ending.
Like I said, most movies, tv show, etc has some sort of ridiculous illogical event going on to move the storyline along. Just as long as it isn't so ridiculous, they can get away with it. I don't think MW2 storyline had anything that was that ridiculous to make it bad.
I pity anyone trying to figure MW2's story that hasn't played the original MW. I admit I was surprised to find out that MW2's story had something to do with the first one. Not because it was a clever plot twist, but because it was pulled out of thin air. There was no fore shadowing allowing the player a chance to figure things out, as usual stories do, it was just BAM!
Why were you surprised? Black Ops was just a continuation of WaW with a focus on the Cold War this time. Why is it ridiculous to think MW2 would be tied to MW's storyline?
The first MW was more stream lined with only two storylines, eventually dovetailing into one. Things were easier to follow, and the moments far more memorable. That race thru the tilted ship, the crawling thru the grass by the Russian army, holding them off later by yourself, and that final car chase were truly memorable moments. MW2 and now Black Ops are just one forgettable blur, that I only recall the trudging thru, not the fascination of what I saw.
MW2 will be remembered for me at least because of the vivid battle scenes in DC since I am from the DC area and constantly passed by the buildings you see in the game. Then you have No Russian because of the shock of what that mission "made" you do( A) They gave you the option to skip it B) You didn't have to shoot to pass the mission).

I don't really get this... You already pay fees for the data - why do they care for how you use it?
It's funny because nowhere in europe (well, from first hand experience in UK/ Scandanavia), do the carriers prevent tethering, nor do they charge an extra fee for it.
They have data caps (100MB, 500MB, 1GB etc) but they don't care what you use it for. And this makes sense. Thus I can work from cafes through my HTC Desire, and as long as I'm not streaming video or downloading many podcasts then the 1GB/month is more than enough for my phone and occasional tethered usage.
For once Europe seems to be ahead of the curve to the advantage of the consumer when compared to the USA.
Because in the US they differentiate between data from a smart phone and data - it is based on the idea that a pure smart phone user is going to use a whole lot less data (due to the nature of the device itself) when compared to someone tethering it on a computer. In most other countries, such as where I live, there is no differentiation, there is one set of prices for data and whether you do it via smart phone, tethering, or 3G stick the telco doesn't matter because the data is all priced the same.

One of the carriers source of income is data charges. Within that category of data sales is:
1) Data used via smartphone for web access.
2) Data used via tethering your phone & laptop.
3) Data used via a laptop air card bought from the carrier.
When you use method 2 illegally, the carrier loses out on that data sale. It's been like this for years, yet not been a problem as large as it is now.

I guess the fierce competition drives them there. What I'm saying is just that I think charging for the way you use data isn't very logical, but charging for how much data you use is. Hm, if that made any sense. :)

I'm expecting more Leopard features, more movie studios for iTunes, iLife '07, iWork '07, the release of "iTV," and perhaps Core 2 Duo in the MacBook Pros, (if not sooner); I believe the MacBooks will keep Core Duo.

I started today in the programmers forum. I saw the buttons and assumed (I know!) what they were probably for. I read a posted question and then several answers. One was better (at least for me) than the others and I like the ability to vote for that answer. It could, if further options are added, help others interested in that question to zero in on that answer. Or, just to let the person who gave that answer a "one up" to let them know that their answer was cool.
This all works for me.
Now in the other forums where there is much more subjective material? It could be a zoo.
To add: I think I see a lot of shoot from the hip posts on this. I think we should give the team a chance to see how it works out and what changes they may or may not make.

stop appreciating the Name of the game instead of the game itself...this game is awful. You're making excuses and justifying the stupid **** that the game has and dealing with it.
When you're playing a game and players start spawning directly behind you and shooting you in the back EVERY SINGLE MATCH, its time to realize that the game sucks.
When you're playing a WAR game and cannot be a successful sniper in it, its time to realize the game sucks.
The maps are too small and the Spawns suck causing multiplayer to blow. If you want to make excuses for all the nonsense and frustration in the game and play on...then have at it. But the game is not nearly as good as Modern Warfare 2.
Here's the thing Vidder, when you're debating something with someone and you're constantly shouting and belittling their opinions odds are YOU AREN'T GOING TO CHANGE THEIR MINDS!
To EACH THEIR OWN, personally, I was not a fan of Modern Warfare 2 but I like Black Ops. I also love Bad Company 2 which does allow sniping. For me, Black Ops and MW2 are both very arcadey shooters. I expect running and gunning and no realism. It's all down to twitch controls and covering mechanics with teammates.
I would say that you are more likely to get "sniper" kills on Hardcore mode as their is no kill cam and pretty much instantaneous deaths. Regardless, as in real life, if you are in a CQB situation (which most of these maps in Black Ops are) you are going to run the risk of getting stabbed/shot/bitch slapped in the back if you are concentrating on the other end of the street while staring down a scope. You do have the option to watch your back with: claymores, friends, or the sticky cam.
Please above all, calm down. Oh, and have a great day :)

I am the owner of a Fuji S3 Pro and I bought Aperture 1 about a year ago ($499). And there was no support for Fujifilm Raw files. I returned the item to Apple.
I checked again today and the Fuji S3 Pro file format is now listed in the Camera Supported page Apple posted for Aperture 1.5 (http://www.apple.com/aperture/raw/cameras.html)
